Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants
Ecological restoration can be understood as an act of reciprocity, in return for the gifts of the earth. This talk explores the ecological and ethical imperatives of healing the damage we have inflicted on our land and waters. We trace the evolution of restoration philosophy and practice and consider how integration of indigenous knowledge can expand our understanding of restoration from the biophysical to the biocultural. Reciprocal restoration includes not only healing the land but our relationship to land. In healing the land, we are healing ourselves.

Wild Ones is excited to cohost this event with the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh's Earth Week 2024 and the Wild Ones Fox Valley Chapter.

We will tour the preserve and learn about next steps for helping to restore the habitat and native plants located there.

In concert with Diakon Wilderness Greenhouse, our chapter will hold a native plant sale.  Members will volunteer to help buyers with purchases. 

Educational walk to teach about invasive plants and existing native species, plans for removing invasives and replacing with native species, and listening, watching for birds and other wildlife benefitting from the natural setting.  This event is being co-hosted with our local Appalachian Audubon Society and local park volunteers.

Tour two member gardens right next door to each other.  Pot luck and social time, beginning around noon.   Rain or excessive heat date will be Sunday, 7/21/24 at 10:30.  After-event garden tours available for those who can't come early.

Members and others can bring native seeds to share.  A presentation will discuss the importance of using native plants in our landscapes.
